Burger with cheddar and Folláin Caramelised Red Onion Relish beside the recognisable Folláin jar
Folláin Caramelised Red Onion Relish with Black Garlic on a cheddar burger.

From a West Cork kitchen to the hospitality table

Folláin’s story began in 1983 with a grapefruit marmalade made to a hundred-year-old family recipe. Its name is the Irish word for “wholesome”. From that beginning, the family business developed a range of jams, marmalades and relishes that keep fruit and vegetables at the centre.

For hospitality, relish earns its place through simple versatility: one spoonful brings sweetness, acidity, texture and depth. It can work across a burger menu, cheeseboard, lunch service and breakfast.

The hero flavour: caramelised red onion with black garlic

Folláin makes this relish with 46% red onion, 3% black garlic and 3% balsamic vinegar. The onion is sweet and savoury, while black garlic adds a deep, mellow and almost syrupy note. Folláin recommends it with sandwiches, pizza, meats and cheese. See Folláin’s product information.

Four pairings that make more of the jar

Cheeseboard

Spoon the relish beside mature cheddar, blue cheese or soft goat’s cheese. Add thin slices of McCambridge’s wholewheat bread for a recognisably Irish element.

Toastie

Use a thin layer with cheddar and ham, or cheddar and grilled vegetables. The onion and balsamic give a simple toastie a fuller flavour.

Roast beef sandwich

Pair it with roast beef, watercress or rocket and a little mustard. Mellow black garlic is a natural match for roasted meat.

From grill to vegetarian

Serve it with sausages, steak or pulled pork, or use it on a portobello burger, grilled aubergine or savoury tart.

A strong choice for breakfast and brunch too

At a breakfast buffet or brunch, Folláin Irish Tomato Relish can sit beside eggs, sausages or a warm breakfast sandwich. Complete the table with McCambridge’s Irish Stoneground Wholewheat Bread, Kaptein unsalted butter portions and the small 200 ml Pago Orange bottle. For cheese, grilled chicken or a vegetarian sandwich, consider Folláin Chargrilled Red Pepper Relish.

Practical ordering

Green Acres supplies all three Folláin relishes in 320 g jars. Use a clean utensil, follow the storage instructions on the jar after opening and test the portion against the dish: one defined spoonful will often work better than a thick layer. Always use the current label or product specification for ingredients, allergens, shelf life and nutrition.
